Mount Merapi, Gunung Merapi (literally Fire Mountain in Indonesian/Javanese), is an active stratovolcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. After a large eruption in 2010 the characteristic of Mount Merapi was changed.
One of Brother and Travelhood itinerary is to conduct lava tour by jeep to expose the adventurous journey that the Mountain offered. This trip as well allow you to observe the Merapi surrounding and see what remains there.
Just recently, Brother and Travelhood just hosted a Group trip to Merapi Volcano Mountain. This is a trip from Bandung Institute of Tourism. The field trip was conducted by Jeep with Brother and Travelhood. The tour started from 9 AM with meeting point at Mount Merapi.
Happy and full of spirit, this adventurous journey started and bring the group to reach the first check point!
First check point, remaining house after volcanic eruption in 2010. This Mini Museum called “Sisa Hartaku”, or remaining of my wealth, really show the remaining of a house that affected directly by volcanic ashes.
Then journey continue to second checkpoint, Alien Stone. This stone was never here before, yet after eruption of Merapi all of sudden it arrived here. Locals said it was thrown by the eruption of Merapi crater and reach here.
Third stop is known as the bunker, used during merapi eruption to hide from the volcanic ashes. To reach this stop, the route getting even more steep and challenging, but to our group this is just another adrenaline rush that they love!
