Historically speaking, this area was once used by Buddhist monks to take a rest on their journey from Boro (Kulon Progo) to Borobudur or the other way around. Even a long time before that, this place had been assumed sacred and inhabited by spirits. However, it's undisputable that Sendangsono can't be separated from the Catholic Church history in Java. The natural surrounding and its serenity are there to cease your fatigue, but the design of the church will amaze you even more.
